Romantica lyrics
Romantica,
I'll always be so hopelessly romantic,
Just like the wind baby, the earth, the sky,
And you and I made magic. . .
What about me, baby?
Will I live my life alone?
No one to comfort me,
Must I sing for everyone?
Was that a kiss I felt,
Soft on my cheek just then?
Did you awaken me?
And where did it all begin?
How can I time travel?
Must I encapsulate?
All that we ever were,
The sand, the sea, the shore and fate?
I'm riding in your rocket,
You crash me back to earth,
I cried when Steveland sang,
"And do you have angel wings?"
Romantica,
Just like Heaven works of wonders,
Two passing ships in the night,
Two restless lovers,
Romantica,
To the stars you must surrender,
So take your place as you return to forever,
Return to forever, my love. . .my love.
What about you? Are you,
Sleeping with the angels now?
And are you making music?
Did you take a sacred vow,
To be an altar boy?
And do you ring the bells?
I hear you're with your mother,
Yes and she too is well,
I have my memories,
As I lay here in my bed,
Oh how we danced those nights,
On those days when we were wed,
I'm happy for you now,
So happy that you're free,
Ours was an epic tale,
Sung through eternity.
Romantica,
Just like Heaven works of wonders,
Two passing ships in the night,
Two star-crossed lovers,
Romantica,
Now your soul you must surrender,
So take your place,
As you return to forever,
Return to forever my love. . . my love.
They say I'll see you again but I know,
That's intangible,
Why must I keep wanting things that I know,
Are not haveable?
Why is the earth so still?
Is it that surreal?
Has your cup been filled?
Will I grow old gracefully?
Romantica,
I'll always be so hopelessly romantic,
Just like the wind, the earth, the sky,
And you and I were magic. . .
Romantica,
I'll always be so hoplessly romantic,
Just like the wind, baby, the earth, the sky,
And you and I made magic.

Poetik, I agree that Sapphire is one the strongest efforts Teena has put out since Ivory. I loved every track on Ivory. Bottom line, she continues to be criminally underrated and I have always been a huge fan and will remain so. Teena is a prolific talent and writes intelligent and contemporary, romantic and classic lyrics that keep me waiting on the edge of my seat for the next CD. She's wonderful and is instrumental in keeping R&B alive today because so much of what is out there from today's performers (notice, I didn't say artists) is dribble. There are, however, some very good so-called neo-soul, B-side artists out there that are similarly underrated and don't get the airplay they deserve. They too are keeping R&B alive.

I really thought this song was about Luther. Some of the lyrics just didn't seem to fit for Rick James. It sounds like she was talking about Luther Vandross, although I don't know that his mother has passed away. I thought I'd heard something of the sort a while ago. It sounds like Luther to me.

Poetik: here are the other two songs. They wouldn't fit in the fist comment field, so I had to send them seperately.
Spend The Night
(Verse I)
I can’t believe that this is happening
Something’s taken over me
I can’t seem 2 shake the thought of u
And I’m in love so deep
If u let me try
I’ll be sure 2 satisfy
All ur aching wants and needs
Do the best I can
Make u understand
That 2gether we should be
(Chorus)
So spend the night if u like
And I’ll be good to u
Spend the night and baby u might
See I’m the one for u
Spend the night it’s alright
Baby I want you 2
Spend the night (spend the night with me)
(Verse II)
Girl I know it may be hard to see
That I simply want to please
U can tell me anything u’d like
Baby ur secret is safe with me
Open up ur heart, this could be the start
Of a love so heavenly
Let me kiss ur smile, make it worth ur while
Baby spend the night with me
(Repeat chorus)
Treat You Like A Queen
(Verse I)
Baby tell me why
U’re wearing dark glasses inside
What ya trying 2 hide
Is it another black eye
What ya gonna do
Next time he lays his hands on u
And to tell u the truth
Don’t u realize he don’t love u
(Chorus)
If he don’t treat u like a queen
Uu should be stepping
It’s obvious 2 me
That he ain’t worth it
What’s the use in staying
When he hurts u
Baby u should know
He don’t deserve u
(Verse II)
Tell me what makes a man
Treat his woman so cruel
2 me it makes no sense
For u to stand this abuse
Enough is enough
U deserve a love much better
A little joy and laughter
Understanding on a sliver platter
(Repeat chorus)
(Bridge)
U can’t go on pretending not 2 see
What everyone knows
Open ur eyes, u’re running out of time
There’s no joy in pain
What ya gonna gain
He don’t feel no shame
Why is it that you stay, loving this way
It could end your life 2day
If u don’t know, if u don’t know
Then u wouldn’t know

Poetik, I included the words 2 the songs I suggested. I also added the lyrics of 2 more songs that I think u may enjoy. If u listen closely u can hear some of his musical influences (Prince, Chaka Khan and Stevie Wonder). He sounds like Raphael Saadiq and Stokley, but he's more like Al Jareau and Kem in terms of the control he has and the things he can actually do with his voice. His range is great, too.
It’s Alright
(Verse I)
I used to be ur love fool
Believing every lie u told
Running 2 u when u’d call
There to catch u when u’d fall
But then it became clear 2 me
U never really cared 4 me at all
(Chorus)
It’s alright, I’m gonna make it on my own baby
It’s alright now
(Repeat)
(Verse II)
Your lying eyes
Deceiving smile
Hypnotized me every time
Until the day
That I was awakened
2 the fact that u were never mine
Ur heart’s no more a mystery
I gave up on u loving me at all
Repeat chorus twice
(Bidge)
And just so u know wherever u r
I’m doing fine alone without u
Though it was hard 2 think I’d make it this far
Wherever u are I hope it gets through to u
Now it’s become clear 2 me
U never really cared 4 me at all
Repeat chorus
It Ain’t Love
(Verse I)
Is it really love that
U’re feeling 4 me
Or is it a fantasy
That only I dream
U slap me with anger while
I kick u my love
U smack me with ur hatred while I
Kick u my love
(Chorus)
It ain’t love, it ain’t love (repeat)
(Verse II)
Is it really love when
I give u my time
Sharing with u my heart
My soul and my mind
U tell me I’m yours baby
Only 2 stray
Leaving me with the pain
Of being lonely
(Repeat chorus)
If it ain’t love I don’t want 2
If it ain’t love baby
Cause if it ain’t love it ain’t don’t do
If it ain’t love baby
So Right
(Verse I)
Time 2 spice it up
Time 2 make it a little sweeter now
Put me in ur mix
Baby stir it up and drink me down
I’m wanting u
Hard, strong and true
If it’s alright
I’m ur’s 2nite
(Chorus)
Cause nothing has ever, ever felt so right
I’m in heaven when I look in ur eyes
Nothing has ever, ever felt so right
It’s so right, it’s just so right
(Repeat)
(Verse II)
Baby take ur hand
And gently rub my body down
Come n-2 my world
And turn my whole life around
So if it’s cool
And u want me too
I’m here for u
Anything u want me to
Repeat chorus
(Bridge)
Hey there it’s u
That I’ve fallen deep n-2
Hey there it’s u
That I’ve fallen deep n-2
Nothing has ever, ever felt so right
Nothing has ever, ever felt so right
(Bridge II)
So if ya think, ya think it’s cool
And u know u want me too
I’m here 2 do good things 4 u
Anything u want me to
Repeat chorus
Get Here
(Chorus)
Cause I’m yearning for ur love
Longing for ur touch
I been missing it so much
Get here
I’m waiting 4 u just
2 come and take my love
Only u can feel me up
Get here
(Verse I)
Sugar, I shiver
Alone in a bed where we once made
Sweet love, good love
When will u return and love me again
Think of how it would feel
If u were here with me
Do whatever it takes
Baby get here
Repeat chorus
(Verse II)
Baby, I’m lazy
Walking in a daze
Starring in space
Wanting and waiting
For u to return and love me again
I’m in desperate need
For u 2 pacify me
Do whatever it takes
Baby get here
(Repeat chorus)
Ooh, get here (get here, get here, get here, yeah, yeah)
Ooh , get here (get here, get here, yeah)
Think of how it would feel
If u were here with me
Do whatever it takes
Baby get here
(Repeat chorus)
Ooh, get here (baby, take me baby)
Ooh, get here
Ooh, get here
Ooh, get here

I'm interested to know how you'll like him. Let me know. . .don't be a stranger.
BTW, check out www.pearlswindow.com.
Have a good one!!!
Oh, and let me just say I'm jealous that you're in DC. You get to be in the city when history is made. I wish I could've broguht my kids, my 6 year-old especially. He absolutely LOVES Obama. I know my 17 year-old understands the importance, but he's more quiet and laid-back. My 6 year-old is more expressive.
Talk to you later.

Hi Lolita,
I sure will give Rashaan Paterson a try. What could it hurt? If I don't like him or his style, I just won't listen to him again. But if I like him then I just have a good artist to add to my new ipod that I just bought today. As soon as I figure out how to work it that is. What I will do is give the four songs you mentioned a try and see how it goes. I will let you know as soon as I get the chance to try them.
BTW: I still listen to Teena Marie religiously.

I agree with you; today's lyrics suck, to say the least. I am a HUGE lyric person. If your lyrics are corny, I'm turned off. Trust me, give Rahsaan a try. . .you'll like him. Great lyrics, great voice. In fact, he does things with his voice (especially live in concert) that will absolutely blow your mind. He's been around for a while; just hasn't gotten the recognition. Some great songs of his to try are, "It's Alright," "It Ain't Love," "So Right," and "Get Here," all from his Love in Stereo CD. In fact, the entire CD is great. If you decide to give him a listen, let me know how you like him.
I'm in Houston.

I have heard of Rahsaan Paterson. Though I have not had the opportunity to hear anything by him. You see, I am mostly old school and the new stuff that some of these "artists" come out with is not for me.
I can basically count on one hand all the talent in the music industry that I love. Well...maybe I can count on less than two hands. Mary J.Blige, Faith Evans, Whitney Houston, are some of my favorites from yesterday. The ones from today are Neo, Robin Thicke, and a few others. But less than the ones from back in the day. Primarily because they don't make music like they used to. Lyrics today are not well thought out and has no appeal to me like how songs were once written and recorded. Hip Hip is definitely low on my list. BTW where are you from? I live in DC.

Hey Poetik. I am the BIGGEST Teena Marie fan. I absolutely love her. I agree with you; Sapphire was one of her best CDs to date, as far as mainstream goes. Teena is one of those artist who will never get the props she so rightfully deserve because she's not hip-hop and she's deeper than the public can stand.
Try Rahsaan Patterson. He's another under-rated talent. I would like to know what you think of him. He was The Kid on Kids Incorporated.

Now that I think about it, Teena's "Sapphire" CD was not very well received. There are a lot of people who say that they did not like it. I am perplexed because it is one of her best works to date. I have always been a Teena Marie fan so I like all of her works. But there is something about this particular album that attracted me.

Yes, Lolita you are right. She is singing about Rick James. This is a tribute to Rick. Singing to him after his death. They were once involved. "I cried when Steveland sang and do you have angel wings" is when Stevie Wonder sang at the funeral.

This song is about Rick James. In fact, the majority of the songs on the Sapphire CD are about Rick James. However, I do feel the line, "I cry when Steveland sings, 'And do you have angel wings'" is a quote from a Sevie song. I just have not been able to locate Stevie's song that has the line, "And do you have angel wings". I think I've heard it before, though. If you are familiar with Teena's style, you'll notice that she quotes people all lf the time; Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Maya Angelou, Rick James. That's one of the things that makes her so intriguing, in my opinion.

Is Teena Marie singing about Stevie Wonder? He's real name is Steveland Morris. I love this song.
