Just the other morning
Day or two ago
I was bringing in the paper
My body moving slow
And there was something on my mind
Someone I didn’t know
I forgot a batch???

The x’s they were empty
Pictures painted blue
And in between the lines
And the things I had to do
There was a misty morning sunshine
Where roses used to grow

Gold laces in the window
Shirt hanging on a chair
The way you turned your head

Turnin soft and low

Now I see the paper angels
Chasing diamonds in the sky
The clouds as souvenirs
And the shadows under their eyes
I never knew I would miss you
Until you had to go

Covered lights are growing
Days are losing ground
And just outside the door
Is an old box hanging round
That is covered up with years
Scarlet ribbons fading slow
