The Pickers Are Comin' lyrics
I raised her up from a seedlin'
into a flowering tree,
to bloom in another man's garden
for another man's eyes to see.
Raised her up sweet and appealin',
pretty as a flower can be.
And now I'm bothered by the feeling
that soon she'll be leavin' me.
You'll see.
The pickers are coming,
the pickers are coming,
we won't have to summon a one.
The fruits on the vine now,
it's sweeter than wine now,
so ripe in the September sun.
The pickers are coming
with footsteps a drummin'
they'll soon be a runnin this way
The meadow is bloom is bloomin',
the bloom is perfumin',
the harvest will be any day.
The apple of my eye is ripe
and ready for the takin'.
And tho I know it's only right,
still I feel forsaken.
The pickers are coming
with heartstrings a strummin'
and the plum that they're comin' for,
is my little girl,
my little girl,
my little girl, no more.

Don't do it David! My uncle was a theatre professor and sang this at his daughters wedding. It came off so weird and just seemed creepy. The family still talks about it 12 years later!!
