Christian Cowboy lyrics
by Cindy Walker C. 1953 by Oree music
The devil is a rustler and many are his men,
Who ride the plains and valleys, damning souls with death and sin.
If you're a Christian Cowboy, then saddle up God's Word,
And save a soul that's headin' towards the devil's herd.
Chorus.
Swing in to the saddle, Christian Cowboy;
Start riddin' and start ridin' hard!
Search the canyon of sin for the souls of men;
Bring in the strays for the Lord!
What outfit do you ride for? Are you the devil's hand?
Or is the Lord your Foreman and the rugged cross your brand.
Is hell your destination, or heaven your reward?
You're workin' for the devil or you're workin' for the Lord!
Chorus.
Now when the round-up's over, and pay day rolls around;
When all the strays are branded, and when all the lost are found...
We'll check the reins up yonder, in valleys green and wide,
But we'll never make a Cowboy - unless we up and ride!
Chorus

Mat 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
save those that's headin' towards the devil's herd.
The gates of hell will not stop us
The rock is ...Jesus is the Son of God and He can give a son's heart to whom He will.
It is a heart of true motivation ...to please the Father.

Here are the words I remember as a teenager.... To me, these are the accurate words.
The devil is a rustler and many are his men
Who ride the hills and valleys brandin' souls with death and sin.
If you're a Christian Cowboy, then saddle up God's word
And save a soul that's strayin' toward the devil's herd.
Chorus:
Swing into the saddle, Christian Cowboy.
Start ridin' and start ridin' hard for the Lord
Search the canyons of sin for the souls of men
Bringin' the strays for the Lord.
What outfit do you ride for? Are you the devil's hand?
Or is the Lord your Foremen and the Rugged Cross your brand?
Is hell your destination or heaven your reward?
You're workin' for the devil or you're workin' for the Lord.
Chorus:
And when the roundup's over and payday rolls around
When all the strays are branded and when all the lost are found
We'll check our reins up yonder in valleys green and wide,
But we'll never make it cowboy unless we up and ride.
Chorus:

In response to gerrie regarding the melody, we always sang it to the tune of Rhost Riders in the Sky.

I heard this song as a child and thought that I heard these lyrics differently:
Instead of "damning souls and lives of me", I remember: "branding souls with death and sin" Maybe that was the child-friendly version.
The other change that makes sense to me is the last line of the chorus. Instead of being: "Being the strays" (what does THAT mean) I remember: "Bringin' the strays for the Lord" or "Bring in the strays for the Lord" Try it, you'll like it.

This song must be sung as follow:
TEXT: 1
The devil is a rustler and many are his men,
Who ride the range and valley's,
Damning soul's and lives of men.
If you're a Christian cowboy, then saddle up God's Word, and start the trail a - riddin away from the devils herd.
CHORUS: Swing into the saddle, Christian Cowboy....
Start riddin and start riddin hard !
Search the canyon's of sin for the souls of lost men
Being in the strays for the Lord.
TEXT: 2
What outfit do you ride for ? Are you the devil's hand ?
Or is the Lord your foreman and the rugged cross your brand.
Is hell your destination, or heaven your reward ?
You're workin' for the devil or you're workin' for the Lord !
CHORUS: Swing into the saddle, Christian Cowboy;
TEXT: 3
Now when the round - up's over, and pay day rolls around;
When all the lost are branded, and all the strays are found
We'll check our reins up yonder, in valleys green and wide,
Some will never make it, Cowboy - unless you up and ride !
CHORUS: Swing into the saddle, Christian Cowboy...

The word valley in the first verse must change to valley's
And canyon to canyon's .
Blessings

I suggest that the second verse "Swing into the saddle..." must be use as the chorus.
I like the song very much, it inspired me to do more for the Lord to spread the Gospel of salvation to the glory of His wonderful name.
I will like to know the melody of this song, because i will like to sing it myself, with permission.
